P.T. Stickhandling System
The patented Puck Tutor Stickhandling System design is designed to teach and develop PERFECT stickhandling techniques, and increases the speed of a player’s hands from Mites to Pro! The majority of on-ice stickhandling skills are simulated on the Puck Tutor; and, are broken down in the Tutorial Videos to be properly learned, repetitiously practiced to master, thus enhancing on ice performance!

P.T. Stickhandling System Drills
The specifically designed drills promoting and developing proper Stickhandling Motions on the Forehand and Backhand, the geometric angles to the stick blade in relation to cupping the puck, and techniques taught are:
The FWD and BWD Skating Motions
- designed to simulate, teach, and strengthen a player’s skating and stickhandling motions within the Forward Stride, FWD C Cuts, and BWD C Cuts, while developing Core Strength, and use of Vision- both primary and peripheral.
The Arrowed Lines
- the Arrowed Lines are brought down from the VertX Hockey Training System, and placed in the middle of the board for players to practice what is learned in the V.H.T.S applied to P.T. Stickhandling System, including The Wrist and Backhand Shots.
Narrow and Wide Vertical Figure 8’s
- designed to simulate, teach, and strengthen a player’s ability to control the puck for Forehand Dominant Stickhandling, Puck Protection- both Forehand and Backhand; Proper Wrist Action, while strengthening hands, wrists, and forearms.
Horizontal Figure 8’s (Top and Bottom Pattern)
- designed to simulate, teach, and strengthen a player’s ability to control the puck on the forehand and backhand of the blade for proper wrist action, lateral weight transfers, vision, FWD Press Hockey Stance with proper knee bend and knee action.
Triangular Figure 8’s
- 4 sections. As a pattern, it is designed to further promote all biomechanics and techniques of other drill designs; thus, acting as a blend of varying drills bolstering all motions, stickhandling techniques, core strength, and vision.
One Handed & Two Handed Stickhandling
- designed to teach, develop, and strengthen proper use of the top hand supported by the bottom. This is Important for all players to understand the differences in usage to strengthen Stickhandling, Shooting, and Passing techniques.
Two Handed Stickhandling
- designed to teach, develop, and strengthen a player’s Top Hand (Proper) Grip and Wrist Action being comand understanding usage of shaft movement in the bottom hand. when stickhandling complimented by limited to no shaft movement in the bottom hand supporting the top hand to develop more leverage over the puck. Understanding these two techniques is brought to all varying stickhandling drills that comprise the P.T. Stickhandling System.
3 Parts to Blade
- designed to teach, develop, and strengthen a player’s sense of touch in distinguishing the feel of the puck on the heel, cradle, or toe of the blade when stickhandling and shooting.
Puck Protection Drills
- designed to simulate, teach, and strengthen a player’s skating and stickhandling motions when Protecting the Puck with bodily position between puck and opposing player. Included are One and Two Handed Stick Carries within Puck Protection drills.
Forehand Dominant Drills
- 3 sections. Designed to simulate, teach, and strengthen a player’s ability to control the puck on the forehand of the blade to further Puck Protection techniques, Puck Control of Forehand Passing techniques, further influencing proper technique in Receiving Passes.
Forehand Toe Drags
- designed to simulate, teach, and strengthen a player’s ability to learn and properly execute Forehand Toe Drags, as most students do not understand proper technique.
Backhand Toe Drags
- designed to simulate, teach, and strengthen a player’s ability to learn and properly execute Backhand Toe Drags, as this is a very difficult stickhandling technique; but is very useful if mastered in certain creative stickhandling sequences on the ice.
Saucer Passes
designed to simulate and teach the technical steps and nuances to developing Proper Saucer Passes.
Vision
develops use of Primary and Peripheral Vision when playing hockey. At certain intervals practicing the designed drills, the player is taught to look up thus teaching a player how to use their primary and peripheral vision interchangeably.
Promotes ‘The Motion of Hockey’
in which the foundation is the Lateral Weight Transfer for proper athletic muscle memory and motions that are applied to Skating, Stickhandling, Shooting, Passing.
Within ‘The Motion of Hockey,’
it promotes Proper Degrees of Knee Bend and Knee Action within the Lateral Weight Transfers for Skating Motions- Forward Stride, FWD C Cuts, and BWD C Cuts applied to Stickhandling, Shooting, and Passing.
Core Strength Resistance Training
develops and provides a Full Body Physiological workout in the lower and upper body for increased strength in Skating, Stickhandling, Shooting, and Passing. And provides a Cardio Workout at the same time!
Sets Proper Foundation
for proper fundamentals. Avoids misinterpretation in learning and developing execution of proper fundamentals and biomechanics; and, prevents misinterpretations of improper fundamentals and techniques being thought of as practicing properly.
Biomechanics Developed and Connected
Proper Posture
- spinal column (approximately 50-55 degrees) and knee bend angles (45-47degrees).
Proper Weight Distribution
- Weight Distribution brought more forward starting from the front of the feet to the start of the heels.
Proper Shaft Angles
- promotes proper shaft angles when stickhandling and shooting congruent to Proper FWD Press Hockey Stance.
Proper Grip
- proper grip with top and bottom hands, angles to wrists of top and bottom hand; and develops a congruency between angle of top hand forearm and shaft of stick, as the shaft is (more often than not) an extension of top hand forearm.
Promotes ‘The Motion of Hockey’
- in which the foundation is the Lateral Weight Transfer for proper athletic muscle memory and motions that are applied to Skating, Stickhandling, Shooting, Passing.
One Handed & Two Handed Stickhandling
- designed to teach, develop, and strengthen proper use of the top hand supported by the bottom. This is Important for all players to understand the differences in usage to strengthen Stickhandling, Shooting, and Passing techniques.
Within ‘The Motion of Hockey,’
- it promotes Proper Degrees of Knee Bend and Knee Action within the Lateral Weight Transfers for Skating Motions- Forward Stride, FWD C Cuts, and BWD C Cuts applied to Stickhandling, Shooting, and Passing.
The Perfect Shot(s)
- teaches and develops the 4 Phases for The Perfect Shot for Wrist and Backhand Shots developing Laser-Like Accuracy!
Varying Degrees of Widths to Lateral Weight Transfers
- teaches varying widths to the Lateral Weight transfer applied to Skating, Stickhandling, Shooting, and Passing with proper knee bend and knee action.
Spatial Differences Between Blade and Puck
- teaches proper spatial differences between the blade and puck when Stickhandling via the Stickhandling Pivot Zone to be practiced within all stickhandling drills; proper spacing between knees within FWD Press Hockey Stance; proper spacing between hands on the shaft in Stickhandling and Shooting.
Proper Use of Top and Bottom Hands
- teaches proper use and development of the top and bottom hands within varying techniques for improved puck control.
Develops Core Strength
- in the lower and upper body for increased strength in Skating, Stickhandling, Shooting, and Passing. And provides a cardio workout at the same time!
The FWD Press Hockey Stance is to be applied to all 3 training systems.
